The Italian town of Vasto is located on the Adriatic Sea coast in the Province of Chieti in southern Abruzzo. The town sits on top of a hill and has excellent views of the sea and surrounding area. Much of the medieval town dates back to the 15th century and when the city was called the "Athens of the Abruzzi". The town is also known because it is the birthplace of the poet Gabriele Rossetti. The resort of Vasto Marina is located below Vast, some 2 km down the hill, where visitors will find a number of hotels, restaurants, camp sites and a long sandy beach. About 5km further north along the coast is the beautiful Spiaggia di Punta Penna and the Riserva Naturale di Punta Aderci, a 285-hectare area of uncontaminated rocky coastline, ideal for long beach walks, swimming and diving.

The Italian island of San Domino lies in the Isole Tremiti Archipelago in the Adriatic Sea. There are five islands in the archipelago and they are San Domino, St. Nicholas, Cretaccio, Capraia and Pianosa, and collectively the islands form a commune of Italy's Province of Foggia and form part of the Gargano National Park. The island's can trace their history back to the Iron Age although in the Middle Ages the archipelago was ruled by the Abbey of Santa Maria a Mare (Holy Mary of the Sea) at San Nicholas island which is thought to have been founded in the 9th century by Benedictine monks from Montecassino.
The island's were used for the detention of political prisoners during Mussolini's Fascist regime. Today, the islands are an important tourist destination because of their crystal clear warm waters. Of the islands in the archipelago San Domino is the most developed island for tourism and has the only sand beach in the archipelago.
