Skikda is a port city in north eastern Algeria on the Gulf of Stora with a population of around a quarter of a million people. Until 1962 when the Algerian War of Independence ended, Skikda was known as Philippeville. Its landscape is hilly and forested, with high ridges on both the western and eastern sides of the city. With its Mediterranean climate and numerous beaches along the natural coastline, Skikda is an increasingly popular tourist destination. Skikda is the third largest commercial port in Algeria after neighbouring Algiers and Oran.
Sete ferry port is situated on the French Mediterranean coast, very close to Montpellier, the 8th largest city of France. Located in the heart of l'Etang de Thau, an enclosed salt water lake used for oyster and mussel production, Sete is a very charming and attractive town. The ferry port provides crossings to Morocco (Tangier and Nador) and to the Spanish Mediterranean coast. The A9 motorway provides a fast connections to the rest of France. The biggest holidays resorts in the area are in Agde.
