The city of Saint-Nazaire is located in the Loire-Atlantique region of western France. The city lies on the right bank of the Loire River estuary which flows into the Atlantic Ocean, and its port has a long history of shipbuilding and fishing. The city is also located to the south of France's second largest swamp, "la Briere". There are strong links between the town's commercial fortunes and the port as the port is a hub for the exportation of French products. Also important for the town's fortunes is the presence of an Airbus assembly plant where aircraft fuselage sections are fitted out. The city is actually a very green city with a good selection of open spaces and parks, and almost 2,500 acres of agricultural land.
