The port city of Piraeus can be found in the Attica region of Greece along the east coast of the Saronic Gulf about 12 km south west of Athens, the Greek capital. Thira is the official name of the island of Santorini, Greece and is located in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km southeast of mainland Greece. Thira is essentially what remained after an enormous volcanic explosion that destroyed the earliest settlements on a formerly single island, and created the current geological caldera. With its dramatic views, stunning sunsets and beautiful beaches, it is no surprise that Thira is hugely popular with holidaymakers.
