However, in stark contrast to the old town, the Ville Nouvelle (New Town) is orderly and has a colonial elegance that was built by the French. In the centre of the city there are now some lovely buildings including an art nouveau theatre, Franco-Arabic market buildings and a cathedral built in a Roman Byzantine style. A popular pastime, especially to escape the heat of the midday sun, is to relax on a seat in the shady terrace of the Belvedere Park Cafe terrace. Alternatively one of the city's museums, such as the Dar Ben Abdallah or the Musee National du Bardo, are great places to visit at all times but perhaps especially so when it is particularly hot.
