Blubber Bay is a tiny settlement on the northern tip of Texada Island, a narrow isle that rises on sheer cliffs from the waters of the Georgia Strait in the British Columbia region of Canada. Once known as a commercial whaling station, a venture that gave the bay its distinctive name, Blubber Bay is now the site of a quarry that contributes towards the island’s production of 6 million tons of limestone each year. The area is also a prime location for whale-watching and scuba diving. The two other major towns on Texada Island are a short distance from the port. Van Anda is just 5 miles south along Blubber Bay Road, a route which also feeds into the town of Gillies Bay and the small airport that hosts flights to and from the city of Vancouver. A daily BC Ferries service makes the short hop across the strait to the picturesque city of Powell River on the Canadian mainland. Passengers aboard one of these ships might be lucky enough to catch sight of a surfacing Killer Whale, one of the rarer species of marine life that thrive in the deep waters of the strait.
Powell River is found on the southwestern coast of Canada, towards the north of the province of British Columbia. The only ferry routes departing the port are to other coastal resorts belonging to Canada, ranging from 40 minutes to 90 minutes.
